Best Graduation Photo Locations at CSUN (2026 Guide) by Chris Martinez

Best Graduation Photo Locations at CSUN (From a Photographer Who’s Shot These Spots)

If you’re graduating from CSUN, first off, congrats. That’s a big deal.

One of the most common questions I get before a grad shoot is:
“Where should we take photos on campus?”

I’ve shot a ton of sessions at CSUN, and I’ll keep this simple—these are the spots that consistently look the best and give you the most variety.

1. The CSUN Sign (Classic Must-Have)

This one’s non-negotiable.

It’s the most recognizable spot on campus, and honestly, it just feels official. If you skip this, it almost doesn’t feel like a full grad session.

Pro tip:
We’ll usually knock this out early before it gets crowded.

2. Orange Grove / Tree Areas (Clean + Natural Look)

If you want something a little softer and more natural, this is the move.

The trees give:

  • Great lighting

  • Clean backgrounds

  • A more relaxed vibe

This is where people usually start loosening up and getting comfortable.

3. Sierra Hall (Iconic Architecture Shot)

This spot adds a completely different look.

You get:

  • Strong lines

  • Depth

  • That “college graduation” aesthetic

It’s perfect for those more polished, slightly dramatic shots.

4. Open Walkways + Golden Hour Spots

This is where everything comes together.

If we time it right, golden hour at CSUN hits really nice.
This is when you get those warm, glowing shots that feel a little more cinematic.

5. Personal Spots (Clubs, Classrooms, Meaningful Areas)

These are always underrated.

If you were part of a club, organization, or just have a spot that meant something to you—bring it up.

Those usually end up being people’s favorite photos.

How I Structure My CSUN Grad Shoots

To keep things smooth and not overwhelming, I usually:

  • Pick 3–4 main locations

  • Plan a simple route so we’re not walking all over campus

  • Leave room for candid shots in between

Most people don’t need 10 locations, you just need the right ones.

Quick Note (This Matters More Than Location)

The best photos don’t come from the location—they come from how comfortable you feel.

A lot of people show up saying:

“I’m awkward in photos”

Totally normal. That’s literally my job to fix.

I’ll guide you through everything, keep things relaxed, and make sure you actually enjoy the shoot instead of stressing through it.
